A Valley View Inn is about three miles from the closest village. Here you are as likely to see a horse and buggy as a pickup truck. And while it’s legal to pass a slow moving vehicle in a no-passing zone, you may choose to slow down instead.
Carefully maintained farms dot the hills; rolls of hay, corn-shocks and orchards attest to the fertility of the valley. Rail fences stitch together the seasonal patchwork of the countryside.
Local shops offer antiques, Amish crafts and furnishings, hearty home-cooked meals, and traditional variety store supplies. Poke your head into the blacksmith shop or harness shop in New Bedford, Miller’s Bakery or Guggisberg Cheese in Charm, Savannah Sweets Chocolate Factory in Berlin, or The Wooden Toy Store in Sugarcreek.
